History of Philosophy Society

Social discourse abounds with discord and disagreement that threaten the structures of political community at the local, national, and global level, highlighting the need for philosophers to address what it means to be in a political community in the first place. Thinkers throughout the history of philosophy have attempted to define, ground, and delimit the boundaries of political community to address and, perhaps, preclude such conflict. This
conference aims to explore how philosophers thought about the nature of political community, its membership, ordering, and purpose. We welcome papers on any figure in the history of philosophy prior to the 20th century that address any dimension of political community. Please send submissions as an email attachment to historyofphilosophysociety@gmail.com no later than January 25, 2022. The full paper should be 35 minutes of reading time.
