Assistant Professor of Philosophy in African American Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy (https://philosophy.la.psu.edu/) at Penn State invites applications for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Philosophy with a specialization in African American Philosophy. The anticipated start date for this position is Fall 2024.

Candidates must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher in a relevant field and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties will involve a combination of teaching, research, and service. The teaching load during the academic year is two courses per semester.

In this role, areas the Assistant Professor may focus their research on include Black feminist thought, Africana Philosophy, or decolonial thought.

Penn State’s Department of Philosophy has longstanding strength in continental philosophy and its specialties in critical philosophy of race and feminist philosophy, all of which are approached through attention to the history of philosophy.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field by the date of appointment.
