CFP: KAPSULA Magazine SUMMER SCHOOL

KAPSULA is a listserv dedicated to engaged and evaluative art criticism. Entirely digital, the publication explores forms appropriate for web documents and aims to advance online art publishing.

Welcome to SUMMER SCHOOL. To begin our third volume, KAPSULA wipes the chalkboard clean. We don’t have a lesson plan for you, so think of this call as “self-directed learning.” The only stipulation is that we ask all submissions to somehow reflect on our publishing history and call upon themes explored in the early days of the magazine. Any theme addressed in our first volume is eligible. Please take some time to peruse our archive, if you’re not already familiar with our past issues.

Let’s make SUMMER SCHOOL about more than an easy A. Look to our mandate as a kind of rubric, and notice we’re prone to favouring evaluative, accessible writing. Everyone knows the teacher’s pet gets the gold star—we’re not above favouritism. As always, we’re open to a range of formats, particularly encouraging experimentation and hybrid forms of criticism. Feel free to keep it formally relaxed. Before we send you off to your studies, a reminder that bonus points are awarded to texts that address contemporary art while speaking in active, critical voice.

Here’s where we would normally offer suggestions, examples, and possible topics. But instead it seems fitting to end a little early. Proposals, papers, and projects can be sent to submissions@kapsula.ca by May 15, 2015.

Class dismissed.
