The University of Texas at Dallas Philosophy Program invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction, who will contribute to our undergraduate major and minor in philosophy.
Our undergraduate curriculum is based in a sequence of courses in the History of Philosophy. We are seeking an excellent teacher who can offer both lower- and upper-division courses that span the historical sequence of required courses in Ancient Philosophy, Early Modern Philosophy, and 19th and 20th Century Philosophy, which may include critical and non-Western approaches. The ideal candidate will also offer Introduction to Philosophy as a permanent component of their course rotation. Teaching competency in Ethics or Applied Ethics (including Medical Ethics) is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop specialized courses in their area(s) of interest.
The teaching load is eight courses per academic year, with a combination of small and large format classes. This full-time position offers excellent benefits, opportunities for promotion to associate and full professor of instruction, and access to support for research and professional development (though responsibilities of this position are primarily related to teaching, with some service).
The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.
