Topologies of Sexual Difference

7th Luce Irigaray Circle Conference, Melbourne, Australia

The Communication, Politics and Culture Research Centre, RMIT University and the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, will host an interdisciplinary conference inspired by Luce Irigaray and her thinking of sexual difference.
Keynote speakers:

Professor Elizabeth Grosz, Duke University, USA
Professor Pheng Cheah, University of California, Berkeley, USA

The conference will include parallel sessions and an exhibition of visual art. Please submit abstracts (200 words max.) for the parallel sessions (20 minute paper/10 minute discussion) as an email attachment (“doc”). Proposals for the exhibition must include visual support material, submitted via jpegs (low res) and/or urls, abstract (200 words max), and short description of support material.

Please format abstracts and exhibition materials for anonymous review, providing author’s contact details in the body of the email. Please indicate “Irigaray Circle 2014 Submission” in the heading of the email.

We welcome submissions from graduate students as well as faculty. Authors will be notified by March 30th, 2014. If you require earlier confirmation of acceptance for funding purposes, please contact the conference organizers.

The Irigaray Circle also sponsors the Karen Burke Memorial Prize, awarded to the best paper submitted by a graduate student or recent PhD. The winner will deliver the 6th Karen Burke Memorial Prize Lecture at a plenary session of the 2014 conference. Please submit complete papers to irigaray06@gmail.com by 15th February 2014.
