Job: Chair of Philosophy and Religion Department at Appalachian State University

The Department of Philosophy & Religion at Appalachian State University invites applications from senior scholars for the position of Department Chair beginning July 1, 2014. Applicants must have: (1) a Ph.D. in either Philosophy or Religious Studies; (2) an academic record appropriate for appointment with tenure in the department. The area of teaching and research is open. While formal administrative experience is preferred, applications from candidates whose work experience has prepared them for this task will be considered. A record of success in or vision for securing extramural funding is desirable.

Applicants must submit a complete application consisting of a cover letter of 1-2 pages detailing
qualifications for the position; a CV; a statement of approximately 500 words about the candidate’s approach to leadership, teaching, scholarship, and service in a dual department and in the current environment of higher education; one sample of recent or representative scholarship; and the names and contact information for three references.
