Assistant Professor of Philosophy, SUNY New Paltz, AOS: 19th-20th Century Continental

The Department of Philosophy at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a tenure track position (Assistant Professor of Philosophy) beginning in Fall of 2014. AOS: 19th- and 20th-century continental philosophy. The new faculty member will be responsible for teaching Introduction to Philosophy, Existentialism, Phenomenology, 19th Century Philosophy, as well as other upper-division courses in his/her specialization. AOC: open, but we have teaching needs in aesthetics, philosophy and literature, philosophy and film, and philosophy of technology.

A Ph.D. in philosophy is preferred; ABD candidates with a firm defense date (no later than August 2014) will be considered. Commitment to excellence in both teaching and scholarship is essential. Teaching load is 20 credits (6-7 courses) per year. Other duties include committees and participation in department and university life. We especially encourage applications from individuals who can bring diverse cultural and ethnic perspectives and experiences to the campus and who can advise and mentor all members of our diverse student body.
