The Committee on the Status of Women was established in 1984 for the purpose of increasing the participation of women in SPEP. To that end, it requests information on the participation of women in the Society, creates a program session, and (with financial sponsorship from a university press) has, in the past, hosted a reception at conferences of the society.

CSW has developed the following sessions for annual SPEP conferences:

1997: the job market (Arlene Dallery and Jackie Scott, with Gail Weiss moderating).

1998: tenure (Kelly Oliver and Debra Bergoffen, with Sharon Meagher moderating).

1999: generations of feminist philosophers (Barbara Andrew and Linda Bell, with Nancy Holland moderating).

2000: teaching diversity (Mary Bloodsworth and Julie Maybee, with Tina Chanter moderating).

2001: authority with a female face (with Margaret McLaren and Ladelle McWhorter with Linda Bell moderating).

2002: the histroy of women in SPEP, Arlene Dallery and Bill McBride with Sharon Meagher moderating.

The Committee consists of three elected members with staggered terms of three years.
